My Approach to Counselling
Pluralistic, Trauma-Informed & Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy
In this counselling space, all of you is welcome.
I take a pluralistic approach to therapy, which means our work is shaped around you: your needs, values, preferences, and the ways you make sense of the world. Together, we explore your inner landscape from different perspectives, creating space for insight, growth, and change in a way that genuinely fits you.
There is no one “right” way to do therapy. And there is no single method that works for everyone.
Instead, I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, working collaboratively with you to find what feels most helpful, respectful, and relevant to your experience.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to:
-
emotional safety
-
flexibility and choice
-
honesty and collaboration
Whether you want to explore long-standing patterns, make sense of current challenges, or simply feel more at home in yourself, I offer a non-judgmental, supportive space where all parts of you are welcome.
Core Values Behind My Work
Trauma-Informed
I understand how past experiences, especially those involving neglect, abuse, or chronic stress, can shape how we think, feel, and relate.
We work gently and at your pace, with a focus on:
-
emotional safety
-
choice and control
-
respecting your boundaries
You will never be pushed to talk about anything before you’re ready.

Neurodiversity-Affirming
I specialise in working with neurodivergent clients, including those who are autistic, ADHD, or identify as differently wired.
In this space:
-
you don’t need to mask or perform
-
your communication style is respected
-
sessions can adapt to your sensory and processing needs
This is therapy that works with your brain, not against it.
Addiction-Sensitive & Relapse-Aware
As an Advanced Addiction Practitioner, I understand the complex relationship between trauma, emotional regulation, and addictive behaviours.
Whether you are:
-
in recovery
-
questioning your relationship with substances or behaviours
-
feeling stuck in a cycle
we can explore this together in a way that feels safe, compassionate, and free from shame or pressure.

Therapeutic Tools I May Draw From
As a pluralistic counsellor, I may integrate different approaches depending on what supports you best:
-
Person-Centred Therapy — empathy, acceptance, and space to explore
-
CBT & DBT-informed techniques — emotional regulation, thought awareness, practical tools
-
Motivational Interviewing — working through ambivalence and supporting change
-
Mindfulness-Based Practices — building awareness, self-compassion, and resilience
-
Psychoeducation — understanding how your brain and nervous system respond
-
Creative and flexible approaches — especially helpful for neurodivergent clients
We choose what works together. Nothing is imposed.
A Space That Works For You
Our sessions can look different depending on what you need.
They might include:
-
talking things through
-
quiet reflection
-
gentle exploration
-
practical tools or strategies
There is no pressure to “do therapy” in a certain way.
Whether we meet online or in person at The Rutland Therapy Centre, I aim to create a space where you can:
-
feel heard and understood
-
explore freely
-
reconnect with your sense of self
A Gentle Next Step
If you’re curious about working together, you’re very welcome to reach out.
You don’t need to be certain.
You don’t need to be ready.
You can:
-
or send a message with any questions
There’s no pressure to commit - just a space to begin, if and when it feels right.
